Nowadays, little ones are getting their own special spaces and toys when visiting grandma and grandpa.
Here I blogged about grandparents who created a stylish bedroom for their two grandsons. The same set of grandparents created this pirate ship for their grandsons in their backyard! The grandfather designed and created this impressive backyard toy with his own two hands. Wow!
I'm currently working on a bedroom for two little granddaugthers. The grandparents ordered this headboard and toybox before contacting me to assist on the project.
Do you think there is a grandparent trend? Are you a grandparent who is creating spaces in your home for the grandchildren? Are you a parent who has seen your parents or in-laws transform spaces for your children?

Lucky grand children! My children spent many summers and vacations either at their french grandparent's home or at their american grand mother's Newport house. They were confined to the third floor, not allowed at formal dinners, no toys allowed in the house, had to have impeccable manners and be appropriately dressed at all times...my poor nanny was living in fear...such were the times. Nowadays they would run away if they were told to wear a jacket and tie, are messy beyond any wild imagination, the state of their cottage being the main cause for my high blood pressure!!
I would have to say never have kids had it so good! I mean seriously its all about them, never have there been so many amazing great chic lines for kids bedding, furniture and accessories, they have every tech-y gadget known to mankind (not sure yet if thats a good or a bad thing though:) And now not only are they getting amazing rooms at home but even going to grandmas house, they are being treated like royalty! Things have indeed changed though I must say its my observation its more here in this country, than others......
I wish I could be 10 again!
While I do not have children, I am the oldest of 7 siblings and I have seen how my nieces and nephews love to go to my parent's condo. My parents have a supply of "great" books and they also have toys and a fold out Thomas the Tank Engine tent that they love to play in. My parents have a toddler bed in their place as well for the grandkids (they range in age from 12 to 6 months).
Yes! One set of grandparents have 8 grandsons and converted their barn into a "man cave" for them - flat screen tv, gaming consoles, pull-out couches and a pool table - everything a teenage boy would ever need!

Now that you mention it, Lisa...yes! My mother-in-law recently ordered twin beds to replace the queen size bed in the bedroom our boys stay in when they visit them. She is so excited about the room transformation and wants to keep it a surprise until their next visit!
Those little girls are so lucky to have grandparents who care enough to hire the best!! :)

My kids are 17 and 12, but I have to admit I will do anything to keep them coming home once they leave and when they have their own children...I was joking with my husband about the possibility of building a guest house...I think it's very sweet that grandparents are designing rooms for them.
I am a new grandparent of a precious 3 month old, and while he doesn't have a room decorated just for him, I did buy the same crib as my daughter. I wanted to make sure he was happy when he was at my home and comfortable sleeping. I'm going to do my best not to spoil him, but I can tell already that this is a challenge!!
If it is a trend, its very sweet. I'm blown away by that pirate ship...want that in my own backyard...arrrgh.
Yes, indeed my grandchildren have their very own room in my home. You can see it here,

if you would like to see it. They love it and they each call it THEIR room. Home away from home is the feeling I am trying to evoke and so far I have accomplished that, my oldest is 11 years old and in the 6th grade, he has always had this room as his!! I guess it might be a trend and I think a very good one, or at least for this Grammy,

That is really charming trend if it is, how lucky those little ones could be. So love that pirate ship.

Yes! I am one of those grandparents who has a "toy" room (as they call it) and an additional bedroom for the grandchildren. It's great to be able to decorate it the way I would have liked when my children lived in the house. I let them choose their wall colors, curtains, etc. and they were a tad too colorful for my taste. Now I'm in charge of these two rooms. Yay!
I am taking notes for when the day comes that I have life's greatest reward, "Grandchildren!" One of my sons is visiting his Grandparents in France and I think he is sleeping in the "Fuchsia room!" I love how a room can be named after a color or better yet, a grandchild. My sister is a Grandmother and they have made a lovely room for their grandson. A wonderful day bed, a bookshelf with books and always something on the stove or in the oven!
I can hardly wait for the day! Well, my sons are only 18 so I guess I will have to wait a few years. My girl is 12 and that will be a whilst away too.
