A simple wallpapering tip

When hanging anything on top of wallpaper, I recommend you don't put the the nail through the wallpaper. You will create a small whole in the wallcovering that can not be fixed or hidden in the event you want to move the artwork or frame. Instead, using a utility knife, cut a small upside down V, pull the wallcovering back gently and then put the nail through the drywall.
If you ever wanted to move your hanging you could just dab a little wallpaper paste on the drywall (V area) and pull up the wallcovering to make it whole again. This works well if you are "fixing" an area where you had one or two frames, the repair will usually go unnoticed.  A simple tip that works like a charm!

I was worried about this and had decided not to use wallpaper in my powder room because I'm constantly moving art around and figured the holes would be an issue. Genius tip! I'm so excited that I'm buying the paper today. Thanks, it's the little things that make a difference!

Great and original tip that I'll be putting to use post haste! I wallpapered my powder room about a year ago and have yet to hang a towel rack or anything for fear of putting holes in the paper.

Oh my gosh - you have no idea how much I needed this tip. I have hesitated hanging things in my powder bath b/c I was afraid I might make a mistake on the wallpaper.

Never again will I hit a nail straight through wallpaper! Brilliant, Lisa!!

I learned this tip from my Mom when I was a little girl...she too, used to hang her own wallpaper. Truly, it saves your wallcoverings!

WOW what a great tip. At first when you said do not hang on top of wallpaper I was thinking it would rip off too much wallpaper, then I realized it was a neat trick.

OK - everyone else except me appears to get it - clearly I'm having a brain fog moment. Seems like a clever trick but I'm not totally understanding. So then what do you do? Do you fold the wallpaper back over under the bottom of the hook? I can't tell in the photo.

Quintessence,
I just removed my above comment as I made a mistake. Okay, here we go...this tip is in the event that you decide to take down the hanging that would have left a hole in your wallcovering. Instead, if you use this method you will be able to paste back the folded piece to make the wallpaper appear whole again...which usually goes unnoticed.
