Often homeowners overlook hallways and staircases as being spaces to decorate. Many times these spaces are thought of as passage from one space to another when they could (or maybe even should) be decorated. I always look at these spaces as opportunities to create either art or photo galleries. I'm currently transforming my staircase. Up until now I had a photo gallery with all the same size frames, but I was lacking the "wow factor" that I desired. Recently while I was in the D & D Building (design building in NYC) I came across this chocolate and white striped wallcovering and immediately placed an order knowing it would be the perfect compliment to my staircase.

Lisa I have painted my entry and hallway a deep blue and hanging art to brighten the space. I am also considering a silver vine going up the staircase bt the railing.

Looks great so far....I'll admit my stairways got painted but that is about it.....the halls got some decoration but not the stairs. I am so envious that you know how to hang wallpaper and are so good at it!

I agree with you 100%, staircases and hallways are often overlooked from the design standpoint. Adding beautiful artwork or wall accents can really make that space shine :) thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteThe frames are 14" x 17" and they are from Pottery Barn. The cost was $29.00 per frame. The clean lines are perfect for creating the gallery look I wanted to achieve.

Lisa, that definitely says WOW! Great choice on the wallpaper. My front staircase has me stumped....it has a gentle curve to it - so I'm not sure if I should wallpaper all the way to the 3rd floor, leave it, or try and put some interesting art on it. Sadly, I'm in a state of paralysis for now!!! This gives me a nudge to try something though!
