Creating a room out of your hallway

Many times hallways are overlooked as spaces to design. I love to make a hallway feel like a room vs an area you pass through to get from the bathroom to the bedroom. I most often design hallways to be photo or art galleries. If there is a nook, then I might place a dresser, cabinet or console, as seen here.

The size of your hallway helps to dictate what you can do with your space. A photo gallery, an art gallery, a sitting area, a bookcase with a chair for a mini-library? Does your hallway get you from point A to point B or have you created a designed space?

  1. We've got a long console table in the hallway outside our guest room with a lamp and some books, etc. Love hallways big enough for a chair or two...

  2. GM, My hallway is 30ft long and it is only 3ft wide, Not much room to do anything in it. I do want to add some architecture with molding but that is has not been done. Love the chest and the vignette on top in the image, looks wonderful,Kathysue

  3. Love to decorate a hallway too! Our upstairs hall (center hall colonial) has a gallery of black and white family photos and a bench. The idea of a dresser didn't occur to me, but wish it had b/c of the extra storage!

  6. I so wish I had a hallway. My apartment just kinda spills into my dining room so I don't have room. I definitely dream of them though and I'm loving this zebra chest. It's perfect!

  7. Kathysue,
Your hallway is 30' long? Wow! Why not do a photo gallery on the walls? It'd be stunning!

  9. Ah if only I had a nice big hallway to decorate, my house is tiny. Yours looks great though, I really like what you did.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead.

  11. Would love to try and art gallery on my long hallway. Arranging something asymmetrically scares me a little, though!
