Goodbye mirrors

How one small change (and a can of paint) can transform a space...

When we moved into our home this is what our kitchen looked like...it had a mirrored backsplash (all I can say is...no thank you...totally not my style!) This image was taken while unpacking. Our kitchen is a decent size (24'L x 10'6"W) and is flooded with natural sunlight (6 skylights and six windows)...so why the mirrors I wondered?

After
The white and gray marble backsplash, along with Benjamin Moore's Bunny Gray (my favorite shade of gray) helped me to achieve the crispness I desired. See how this small adjustment transformed the kitchen? If Viking's St. Charles steel cabinetry peaks your interest, check out their website http://www.stcharlescabinets.com/

Will you be tweaking any spaces in your home in the new year?

  4. Lisa,
It looks so much better and definately more stylish and current! I like mirror in a dark space or small space, but clearly this light filled kitchen did not require it and you knew it...designers instinct:) and the new tile is fab!

  5. Oh so much better! And I do love St. Charles - one of my best friends has an apartment in a legendary pre-war building in the city. Her kitchen has the original stainless St. Charles cabinets that go to the ceiling - FABULOUS!

  8. What a huge difference that made. I kept going back and forth thinking that you changed much more - I didn't notice the cabinets, the hardware, etc. in the first image with the mirrors... it was soooo busy. Great job - your choice of backsplash was perfect. LOVE the kitchen now.

  12. Thanks for your comments! Isn't it amazing what a little change can do? Both photos were taking during the day. The top photo with lights on is horrible due to the mirrors, but the bottom photo I don't have a single light on and look how bright it is with just natural sunlight. The marble backsplash compliments the space vs distracts from the room.

  14. Wow Lisa, it really does look so much better. Love what you did!! I read your comment today on my organization post and I am right there with you. If the house is a mess I am a mess too. My main area is my kitchen counter, it has to be empty!! I am funny that way and luckily my family puts up with me, lol!!
