Ikea chaise, enhanced

When it comes to Ikea furniture, I'm a wild about two pieces. One being the Ektorp chaise which has been in my daughter's room for three years. For a $300 price tag this chaise offers a cushion cover that is removable and washable, a slipcover, a comfort level that is high and it reclines completely flat to accommodate a snoozer.
Last week I ventured into a Jo-Ann Fabric for the first time since I was seven or eight years old. I found this gem of a trim! The deep rich pink, the inverted pleats with ruffles and the $1.99 a yard price tag made for a real winner for my daughter's chaise!
Armed with a permanent and washable fabric glue, it took me thirty minutes to enhance a basic white chaise into a little gem.
I'm usually one who believes in spending good money on high quality furniture, yet there are instances where I disregard that mindset. This being one of them, this piece is used excessively, still looks fabulous and is perfect for a little one's room.

Have you tried trim enhancement on a retail find?

  5. It looks great! I had 2 of the white slipcovered long storage benches that I sewed a taupe toile fabric band along the bottom which really helped to protect it from the heels of shoes and boots since I used it in our entrance. :)

  7. Lisa, this looks gorgeous! Great job. It adds that extra charm and looks beautiful. The rest of the room is so darling too! I recently found a great lamp with a new lampshade. My plan is to add some trim to the shade in an accessory color!

  10. I'm definitely not as crafty as you - if I brought my trim and pillows, will you show me how? Love the pop of bright pink on the white.

  14. I think sometimes you can find well designed pieces that are quite cheap and if you throw them into the mix with good quality pieces no one would know the difference! Same goes with fashion styling. This room is a great example.

  15. HI, I just found you - I've been looking at the Ektorp sofas and your comments on the chaise are helpful. I already have a chaise, but it's nice to know Ikea's lays flat! I didn't know that! I have 2 boys and wondering about the durability of the sofas. ( think jumping!)

Also, what a beautiful job you did with the trim! If you have a full post on your daughter's room, I'd love to include it in my gallery. You can link it to the Tuesday's Nursery hop: http://playfuldecor.blogspot.com/2011/08/tuesdays-nursery.html
and then I'll post it in the gallery of girl's bedrooms. Feel free to include more kids rooms or boards too. I'm off to look around your site more - nice to meet you!
