I live in a community where if you sneeze the power goes out, so it was no surprise that we lost power on Saturday with the 8 to 10 inches of snow we received...yes, in October, just outside NYC.
Thought this would be a good time to share one of my "tools" for keeping a home. I have power outage lights in every bedroom, every living space and the foyer in my home. When the power goes out these lights turn on automatically and become flashlights for me to get around the house safely. Highly recommend!
Google power outage lights and select from the various ones offered. They aren't attractive, so I plug them into less conspicuous areas...behind sofas and chairs, in the kitchen behind the Keurig coffee maker, behind the dresser in my foyer and other out of sight spaces.
What tip can you share that helps to keep your home running smoothly?
Very smart...sounds you were prepared! Hope it comes back today!!
ReplyDeleteI thought about buying something like this the other day, and no, I didn't think about "hiding" it, but that's a brilliant idea! :-)
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful day!

PS: By the way, tell the people to sneeze less if that's what's causing problems w/ the power! ;-) LOL
I can't believe that some of my friends still have no power! Crazy!

we aren't getting power up north till atleast Monday!!!!! -- i got so many lanterns and candles going when i was there - tress were down everywhere - WORSE then hurrican Irene!!!!
ReplyDeleteLisa,
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I don't have these! I will order immediately, as I suspect there will be a number of power outages this coming year. Since we already lost power in August, it seems like no season is safe.
GREAT idea!!!

Given that we lose power at the mere suggestion of a storm, we have Coleman lanterns in every room of the house. My hubby is deligent and checks their batteries every 1st of the month... and since we've been without power for three days now, I'm glad he does!

Terrific tip - I am definitely checking these out. For some unknown reason we were spared this time and didn't lose power - HIGHLY unusual!!
ReplyDeleteI have boxes of candles and flashlights at the ready.
ReplyDelete(Wine too!:)
Good on you! They look quite chic too actually. Can't believe how much snow you get!
ReplyDeleteThat's brilliant! Speaking of, my house hasn't had power since Friday /:
ReplyDeleteLisa-wow I have never seen these before..what a great idea. I can't believe you got 8-10 inches. Believe it or not we were in MD and it was snowing all day there too!
ReplyDeleteHope it came back by now! That's a great light!
ReplyDeleteGreat advice Lisa...but girl, you do NOT live in an area where you sneeze, etc. I DO! As in still. NO. power! Around these northern parts we call our black out lights a generator..and that is the only thing between me and the insane asylum right now!!!!!
ReplyDeletehope your power is back on now!!! we always seem to have lots of flashlight with no batteries (kids!) I need to be better organized! xxbarbara
ReplyDeleteI have these all over my home in SW Florida, what with threats of hurricanes and tornados. I have never had to use them, I am happy to say. I do use small LED night lights in all the bathrooms for visitors and they only glow in the dark and are very inconspicuous -- no beaded shades, no lights shaped like flamingos.

This is a brilliant idea - I live in a Greenwich, and I sometimes I feel like I'm in a developing country - we lose our power so often. We recently put in a generator (as we have no water when no power) - but I wish I had known about these beauties for all those times before.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to forward this post to some of my friends. Thanks!
