Roman blinds

When it comes to windows that face a street, I usually gravitate towards top down/bottom up or up/down Roman blinds. Are you familiar with this type of blind? Depending on the manufacturer of the window treatment it is referred to slightly different, but basically it is a Roman blind that can raise from the bottom to the top/middle (first image) or it can be lowered from the top to the bottom/middle (second image.)

Here are the blinds in my son's bedroom.
A close-up of the navy/white striped textile.
The benefit of such blinds is that it allows sunlight in while still having privacy from passerbys on the street. I have them in my kitchen (some of the windows face the street), in my son's room (faces the street) and I'm in the process of having some made for my daughter's room. Roman blinds are classic, timeless and this type of system provides great practicality.

I think these are so smart! I have them in my guest bathroom....but the funny thing, most people get confused on how to work them. They make so much sense for balancing propriety and sunshine!

I have always liked the blinds "up" at the bottom for privacy and open at the top for light. What I do not understand is how so many homes always have their windows blinds or curtains totally closed. And then there are those who never open their windows at all...

Your home, Lisa, is very chic!

Roman shades are my favorite... I can't wait till we buy our own freaking house! (Soon enough Bea, soon enough) I finally tore down our cheapy cheap mini blinds and threw some sailboat canvas drapes up. I could care less who can see through our window at night... no more mini-blinds! Yeah!

Hope you're doing wonderful Love! I'm a sucker for the blue and white mini stripe too... to die for.

I did the top down/bottom up in my parents dining room. They were really unsure, but also knew I wouldn't do them wrong. They love it, so does everyone else! Your sons room is just adorable!! Have a great weekend XO, Kelly
