Ikea's Billy bookcase

In my home office I needed a little more shelving. I went with Ikea's Billy bookcase for $40.00.
I wallpapered the back of the bookcase with Christopher Norman's Bambu Treillage.
I'm thrilled with the results.
Chinoserie inspired bookcase: Two's Company
Kelly Wearstler Treillage wallcovering: Schumacher

Here's to a wonderful weekend. What's on your weekend agenda?

Great job! It looks amazing with the wallpaper and turns it into a custom piece! I also love the chalkboard labels on the baskets and pop of orange. Have a great weekend! :)

Hi,
I really enjoy your blog (haven't left you a comment before though). Just want to say, yeah for the billy. I used Billy bookshelves to create a butler's pantry in my laundry room. Standard cabinetry was too big for my narrow space.
If you're interested in seeing what it looks likes, head over to http://monkeygrasshill.blogspot.com/2010/11/drum-roll-please-for-butlers-pantry.html

Best,
Julie

We just placed several Billy bookcases in my son's apartment, which he painted black. They are so versatile! I was most impressed by his style sense- he chose charcoal as his base color with accents of silver metallic and black with the apartment's white walls. This coming from a college/graduate student with posters and/or nothing!

Love the wallpaper in the back. Every designer needs loads of book shelves. The simpler the better!

That looks great, the pattern fits seamlessly with the piece. Also, love the etagere, where did you find it?!

Its good you don't have heavy items on your shelves. The Ikea parsons table bowed under a thin screen T.V. in my daughter's apartment. Send us a report of how it holds up. I can tell you, I only wish my office was as organized as yours. The minute I clean it up, piles grow like mushrooms!

Ann,
The etager is from Two's Company.

Dovecote Decor,
I guess the way I wrote the post could elude to me just buying the bookcases, but I actually have had them for three years. So far, they are holding up well. I have custom built-ins in the office in one area, but needed additional space so I opted for something non-descript to handle the job of suppling additional shelving. Good to know your daughter's situation...food for thought.

We're reorganizing our work space to create a showroom and have just ordered Ikea shelving! Not too expensive but still good quality with clean lines... Love the idea of papering the back and may have to steal it!

That's inspired. I was just poring over the Ikea website looking for furniture for the kids' bedrooms and playroom and wondering how I can make cheap look exceptional. This is it. Great idea.

That bookcase is so versatile, I used it in my son's room. But of course, you added a very personal touch which gives it a totally different feel.
Getting ready for jeffrey Bilhuber booksigning at my showroom to morrow, hoping for NO rain..Do stop by if you are in the city

SO smart. I love that wallpaper... and even though you can't see a ton of it, with the things on the shelves, it definitely makes a difference... just gives it some depth and a warmer feel... Love it!

I'm not afraid to say that I love Ikea... my husband is always making fun of me because we live in a place where there's no ikea and I miss going there. LOL The thing is, ikea has many great things and some others that aren't that great. You guys need to be creative with it to give it "twist". You did just that and it looks great! I need more shelving for kids' toys. I wish I had an ikea close by! :-)

Have a blessed weekend,

xo

I love what you did with that book case, clever work. I am not a huge fan of ikea, its supposed to be easy, but i find all their stuff very frustrating to put together.
